HIDE AND SEEK BETWEEN YOU AND I

I carved the campus surveillance map on the plexiglass through laser cutting. The map on the plexiglass and its shadow map are hard to sense. The shadow map disappears even when spectators get close to it. These features of invisibility and intangibility of the map represent a characteristic of power of gaze which is prevalent in our daily life and reflect my helplessness before the power. On the shadow map, I draw to find the free paths of surveillance cameras. The path is tangible and visible unlike the intangible and invisible map.

The numerous dots on the map that indicate locations of surveillance cameras essentially can be one big dot because many surveillance cameras are controlled by one place after all. The power of the gaze that exists everywhere and my efforts to avoid it seem to play hide-and-seek.
